A 22-year-old driver was issued a citation after police say a toddler was found riding on a case of beer instead of a booster seat in Ontario, Canada on Tuesday.

Police said the driver was charged with failing to ensure the child was properly strapped in.

While the event was met by jokes from some on social media, it highlighted the importance of auto seat safety for children.

The officer then noticed the toddler, who was 2 years old, sitting on a 30-can case of beer in the passenger seat.

When children have outgrown the rear-facing limits of their seats (starting at the minimum age of 2), they can forward-face in a five-point harness.

Police in Ontario tweeted out this photo of the traffic stop.

"Under the new guidelines, kids as old as 4 years old can use rear-facing auto seats if they haven't maxed out of the other (height and weight) requirements because experts agree that keeping kids in vehicle seats for as long as possible is beneficial in the long run", CafeMom reported in August 2018.
