Judge Sherry Stephens opted to sentence Brittany Ann Zamora to 20 years in prison instead of the 27 years prosecutors had asked for under a plea agreement.

Brittany Zamora, 28, was a simple married sixth-grade teacher from Las Brisas Academy in Arizona until 2018, when one day parents of one of her students became suspicious of text messages their son was getting on his phone which they monitored with an app, according to police. She was arrested in March 2018 and pleaded guilty last month to charges of sexual conduct with a minor, attempted molestation of a child and public sexual indecency. "She's a true definition of a child predator", the mother said in a victim impact statement prior to the sentencing in Phoenix, Arizona on Friday.

The 13-year-old victim's family members were not at the sentencing, but their statements were read by their lawyer, KVOA-TV reported. They said they plan to focus on holding school administrators accountable.
