  • Scarlett Johansson Speaks Out Against Politically Correct Casting

The film is based on the life of Dante "Tex" Gill, a notorious figure in the Pittsburgh underworld in the late 70s and early 80s, who masqueraded as a man in order to run a massage parlour and prostitution business.

Scarlett Johansson might have just stirred up a hornet's nest with a recent statement about the roles she should accept. According to a report from Screencrush around the time of the reboot's 2017 release, the studio used post-production effects to make Scarlett and other white actors appear more Asian, which only heightened tensions about the so-called "whitewash" of her character.

Johansson revealed that during the making of a film, so many changes usually take place that the end result is different from the original version she signed up for.

Many agree with the idea that art should be free of restrictions, but the interpretation seems to be in contention.

Users online have been mocking her comments by posting pictures of trees, alongside captions like "OMG guys I met scarlett johansson!".

In July 2018, Johansson first addressed her casting as a trans man in a statement to Out magazine.

Well, Scarlett Johansson definitely has an idealistic view in mind but forgets that in 2019, representation matters.

But her remarks on what she as an actor should be able to do have been roundly mocked.

"You know, as an actor I should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal because that is my job and the requirements of my job", she said.

"There are times it does get uncomfortable when it affects the art because I feel art should be free of restrictions".

"Trans people should play trans people". Following bulk backlash, the actor released a statement saying she had made a decision to "respectfully withdraw my participation in the project". If I, as a straight, older person, and I'm wealthy, I'm very fortunate, does that mean I can't play a person who is not wealthy, does that mean I can't play a homosexual?

"I also think though that there are diverse actors and actresses that have not been served".

What did you think of Scarlett's comments?
