Serena Williams and Andy Murray will play Andreas Mies of Germany and Alexa Guarachi of Chile in the first round of the mixed doubles at Wimbledon after the draw was made Wednesday.

Writing for the BBC, Murray - who will play in the doubles events at Wimbledon - revealed that he went to various art exhibitions, and even tried his hand at painting. I need to respect that and do everything right: "eating, recovering stretching, doing all my normal warm ups and preparations and not just think "oh it's doubles I'll be fine I can get away with not doing all that stuff".

"It [would] be a positive thing for tennis, if more guys were playing doubles", he said.

Azarenka had also thought she was in with a shout of partnering Murray since she had gone all the way to the final with his elder brother Jamie past year. So I was just trying to paint something - and my attempts were hilarious.

Her story, said Williams, is a "great tale" of the value of persistence.

It is Murray's first foray into mixed doubles at Wimbledon although his brother Jamie has twice won the title.

The Scot underwent a hip resurfacing operation after the Australian Open in an effort to extend his career - initially, he planned on retiring at Wimbledon - and duly returned in doubles at Queens in London last month. He was rejected by the likes of world No.1 Ash Barty, but on the eve of Wimbledon, Williams said she was "available" to the idea of possibly playing alongside him. Above all, he really stands out, he really speaks up about women's issues no matter what.

Williams spent a lot of the time chastising herself but eventually closed out the match breaking Gatto-Monticone's serve.

Earlier, Murray ended days of speculation about who he will play mixed doubles with at Wimbledon after confirming he would partner Williams at the grasscourt major.

"It looks like a really strong partnership", she said.

Murray, who will also play with Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the men's doubles, has never won a mixed doubles title but claimed the silver medal for Team GB with partner Laura Robson at the 2012 Olympics, played at the All England Club.
